I would say it depends on the subject...males are probably smarter in the "mechanics" department but females are probably smarter in maybe...say... the "shopping for clothes" department.

On average, they are equally intelligent, though the range for men is greater at both ends of the curve. That means that you have a greater proportion of intelligent males at one end and a greater proportion of unintelligent males at the other end.
