Get a swing. My daughter would fall asleep in her swing and then I would lay her down for a nap. I think at 4 months a baby needs about 16 hours of sleep a day. Try waking up your baby a little bit early or putting her to sleep a little later so that she will take a nap during the day so she won't be tired and grumpy.

When my little one gets tired during the day, I just lay down with her in front of the tv. She snuggles up, nurses for a few minutes and then nods right out. Then if I like, I'll take a little nap too. We both wake up feeling very much better. There are as many variations on sleep requirements as there are babies! Yours might not need as much as others her age. Maybe she's afraid of missing out on something. (I still swear that my kids think I have a clown and a pony hiding in the bathroom - every time I get in there....) If you can minimize the stimuli around her when she starts to seem tired, she might drift off easier. Good luck!

My son is just shy of four months but he's sleeping (thankfully) through the night and about 4 hours a day.
The hospital gave me this wonderful magazine from American Baby; The First year of Life, which gives little milestones and what to expect for each month. According to the magazine, at four months, your baby may be sleeping from 10 to 11 hours a night and taking up to three naps of varying times throughout the day.
My son fights sleep like no tomorrow! It's the only time his little temper really comes though. I swaddle him in a blanket so that his movements are restricted as soon as he starts showing signs of fatigue (rubbing his eyes, disinterest, yawning) and rock him to sleep with his "woobie" (pacifier and favorite stuffy). That seems to get him to sleep otherwise he'll have a fit for hours on end!
Good luck!

Well first off be thrilled that she sleeps through the nite,, that is great for a 4 mo. old.
As for the nap , you could try a swing that always worked for me.. you could aslo try giving her a warm bath and that seems to make them tired, If you want her to take a nap in her crib maybe she is thinking that she has to go to bed for the nite so try something different like a playpen maybe,, if none of this works then i have one last suggestion , take her for a ride in the car until she falls asleep and bring her in and put her down for a nap.. hope these help.

if she gets tired she most likely needs a nap, try taking a nap with her or just quiet time. Most will fall asleep when they are not forced.

When she gets cranky for a nap. Play some classical music on and bounce her to sleep in her bouncy seat. Thats what I do.

"Sleep requirements
In a 24 hour period, newborn babies generally sleep for 16 to 18 hours, and this happens at regular intervals during the day and night.
By three months of age, with development of the brain, sleep patterns will generally become more predictable with most of the sleep occurring at night, and then two to three naps during the day.
The pattern of napping usually includes a morning, afternoon and early evening nap. Always remember all babies are different and as such there is quite a variation in the napping patterns of babies. Some babies will not sleep much at all during the day.
From 3 months onwards your baby can stay awake longer during the day, with periods of wakefulness lasting anywhere between two to four hours.
The following is a guide as to how much sleep your baby should be having:
Newborn
Number of sleeps per day 4
Average time up during the day between sleeps 1 hour
Time it may take to settle 15 minutes
* Newborns will be asleep 16 to 18 hours per day.
* Will sleep for 1 to 3 hours at a time.
* Anything less than 1 hour is called a catnap or a power nap.
* It is expected for baby to wake overnight for a feed.
3 to 6 Months
Number of sleeps per day 2 to 3
Average time up during the day between sleeps 2 to 3 hours
Time it may take to settle 1 hour
* Will sleep for 2 to 3 hours at a time.
* Will sleep 6 to 8 hours overnight.
6 to 9 Months
Number of sleeps per day 2
Average time up during the day between sleeps 2 to 3 hours
Time it may take to settle 1 hour
* Will sleep for 1 to 2 hours at a time.
* Will sleep 10 to 12 hours overnight.
9 to 12 Months
Number of sleeps per day 1 to 2
Average time up during the day between sleeps 4 hours
Time it may take to settle 1 hour
