WIFI Security 802.11g?

Question

Im using a belkin54g wireless modem. Ive got full mcafee security.

But do i need, or can i, run some encription software between by laptop and my wireless connection.

If so which is the best software, any good free ones, is it easy to instal?

Help much appreciated.

What you need to do is enable ( turn on ) the WPA encryption for your wirelss link.
It must be enabled on the Belkin router and your laptop wireless adapter.
It will take too much typing here to give step by step instructions, so look at the user manual for the Belkin and the manual for the adapter in your laptop and do as they say to enable WPA.

It must be WPA and not WEP.
WEP was cracked years ago, but is still better than nothing at all if either of your pieces of equipment do not support WPA.

If your manuals / user guides are confusing, use Google to search for "enable WPA", there are many web sites describing exactly how you do it.
Be sure to check the Belkin web site first if both pieces of equipment are Belkin.

The encryption is already there you just have to turn it on.

Put a WEP key on it at minimum. This can be hacked but it keeps most people out. WPA is new and much better so if both the router and card support it, you should use that.

There are always security issues with anything wireless because a hacker does not have to have physical access to your network to try. If you have really important data, you either should not use it, or keep it outside your firewall and make a VPN connection back in.

you need to get in the router home page and click on the wireles lan icon & click on configure

and you set up a network id for the laptop you call call your network id anything ,a name with numbers or letters with number
and a security wpa key not a wep key dont use that one use wpa key then click apply at the bottom when you have set up your network id and security wpa key ,
if your network cuts out at any time just right click the network icon by the pc time
and click on repair that is on the 2 computers you can do this then windows xp will repair the
network for you and it dont take long at all
if you cant set that up
