Well what I mean is, is there any sort of squirrel that could be domesticated and have as a pet? I know that when my mom was a kid she had a flying squirrel.

There are 3 squirrels in our neighborhood that feed off of our fruit trees. They eat all the fruit before we can get to them. I feel like I'm feeding them already. They have sharp teeth and can bite, so I wouldn't try to catch one. They look pretty happy to me eating all the fruit in our neighborhood and don't have to work. I'd just sit in the yard and wave at them when they come by.

Any type of squirrel is a good pet. I had one when i was a child that fell from a tree as a baby. He was a very good pet and even got along with my parrot. As far as I know squirrels are not illegal as pets but i could be wrong. If you are looking for something exotic you should try a sugar glider. They are in the squirrel family but are much smaller. Very cute and sweet animals however they are sensitive to light they much prefer dark small spaces to live in. Also they cost around 200.00 dollars. Plain brown squirrels have more energy than black ones. Find one that suits your personality and time that you have spend with a new pet.

Yeah, i used to know someone who had a flying squirrel too.
But most of those are called "sugar gliders" and are bought in pet shops, where they were born and raised into captivity (just means that their in an enclosed space, and can manage to live)

Squirrels that are caught in the wild are going to be extremely agressive, and a very dangerous pet. You might be able to keep them in a cage, but they won't have a full, normal life.
Animals that aren't born into captivity cannot be raised properly in captivity.
I suggest contacting a breeder or a pet store if your very interested in getting a squirrel as a pet.

NEVER try to make a wild animal a pet, things can easily turn to the worse. My aunt used to have a pet squirrel that she caught on a visit to florida, she regretted that. Had it for a year, quite tame, then all of a sudden ripped my cousin's face wide open.

Tell ya what...don't mess with wild squirrels...I know a guy that tried to feed one and it almost bit his finger off completely.

Sugar gliders are marsupials, by the way...not squirrels. They'd be a better animal to buy...they've been domesticated.

Any baby squirrel you can find or catch can be made a pet.

sugar gliders are the best bet,
but squirrels are wild animals,
"you can take the animal out of the wild, but you can't take the wild out of the animal".
