Depending on what you clean off. If it is tar or some kind of grease. Use an appropriate solvent. I use mine to cut fruit with,. All i do is run it under water and work the blades back and forth. I do spray it with WD40 about once a month to keep it from rusting.

*VERY* carefully...use WD 40 & wipe it till it is clean. Do NOT immerse in soap & water! Make sure it is clean before you fold it back up. If you are going to use it for food, you have to get the WD40 off, but don't immerse it in water. If yu do, get it out & use the WD40 to clean & protect the finish.

I usually use rubbing alchol. It's works pretty good and disinfects in case I decide to use it for something like food or taking out a splinter.

i use this metal cleaner it cleans all types of metals for the blade and dip it in alcohol...comes out shiny :)
