Lemon is a natural cleanser,lemon flavourings in pop are cheaper to produce

a very good question!
in fact the lemon growers were up in arms once because they had gone to all that trouble only to have their lemons turned into washing up liquid and shampoo, instead of being used as food.
perhaps it's something to do with keeping qualities?

in the "washing up liquid" they need the citric acid, and lemon oil from the lemons to actually "cut the grease" lemon drinks don't need actual lemons, unfortunately.

it's cheaper and the lemons aren't essential, some drinks have lemons in them that are more expensive

because lemon juice dissolves oil, we dont need it in food and drink

I think it it because lemon drinks are sour (i'm not sure if they are acidic).
