Porcelain is just a special kind of ceramic. Porcelain is lighter than normal ceramic objects because fibers are mixed into the clay. When the tile or ceramic object is kilned. The fibers burn up leaving little holes or air pockets, making the piece lighter. The porous attributes of porcelain is what makes it lighter.

Porcelain is higher fired and quite durable. But both will be fine for a floor as most ceramic tiles are monocottura today. That is the clay and glaze are fused in one firing no bisquing in between like bathroom wall tiles.

i do believe porcelain tile is much more delicate material. it should be fine in your application, although, i think is reserved for more ornate spaces. and then ceramic is a slightly more pourous material which would require a more durable sealant, as to where porcelain wouldnt need too much sealant.
