I have an 1994 vauxhall (opel?) corsa and it has no reverse lights! It's just had an MOT and passed.. :-s .. Does anyone know how I can fix this by myself? My dad changed the fuse but it wasn't that. I've heard some people talking about a reverse light switch but no idea what they're on about. Thanks!

on the gearbox you will see a wire attatched somewhere it is attatched to the reverse light switch if its a single wire pull it off and short it to the gearbox if the lights come on the switch is duff if it has 2 wires take off the plug and short out with a paperclip or something (dont short to gearbox) if the lights come on the switch is duff if the lights still dont come on with these tests fuse gone broken wire or bulbs gone (reverse lights are not in the mot )

The most likely fault is that the connection between the lamp and the chassis of the car is corroded. Take this apart (I resume you've checked the bulb!) and make sure everything is clean and free of rust before you put it back.

The reversing switch is on the side of the gearbox extension just below the gear lever. Take out the rubber boot at the bottom of the gear lever (slowly or you'll break the studs) and you should find it. These don't usually wear out, but you might find that the wire's fallen off.

the reversing lights aren't part of the MOT . the problem could be
1 fuse check you have power to the fuse
2check you have power to and from the switch
3check you have power to the bulbs
but first of all check you've not got two blown bulbs, its the most likely cause and easy-est to fix

Try the fuse box first,if not then the bulbs, if still not then it sounds like the wiring im afraid. Russ
You could also try the contact switch, its somewhere around the gear box and its just a little connection wire that belongs in a little metal sockety thing.

I assume you've changed Bulbs

reverse switch is normally found at bottom of gear stick (under the rubber...you may have to go under the car to see it) sometimes wires can come off it
