I think cell phone use should be banned while driving.
Many people may argue that talking on a cell phone while driving is no different from talking to a passenger in the car, but I disagree.
A passenger is in the car with you and can warn you if you're in danger. Someone talking to you on the phone cannot see what is going on around your car and therefore cannot tell whether you're about to hit something and/or drive off the road.
Using a cell phone while driving has proved many times to be as dangerous as drunk driving. Drunk driving is illegal. I don't understand why cell phone use while driving is not.

There is a reason for the bands in some cities, the same stupid people that comb their hair or whatever while they drive are the ones that make driving with a cell phone a problem. You see them every day on the freeways talking and cutting people off and changing lanes without looking before they move. I think common sense would be to use addition options like speaker phone or hearing aids that are common addition, at least they would have both hands on the wheel and look forward. Some city already have restrictions, the bad users make it worst for the ones doing it right, so there is really no best answer but to hope they do the right thing on this subject.

I go back and forth over this. When I was 17, a young girl I knew died when she driving while on her cell phone. BUT, I've talked my cell many times, without putting anyone in danger. Also, where would it end? After banning cells, should we then ban smokers from smoking while driving? What about eating? Listening to the radio? Talking to your passengers? So I think we should urge people to be cautious, for sure. But not ban cells.

Yes, banning them is a preventive measure against auto accidents. Apparently, enough deaths have now occurred that laws prohibiting cell phone usage while driving are starting to pass state by state.

phone without a headset yes, but of course there are time when we need to make a quick phone call or there is an emergency and we need to take a call. instead of banning something that is somewhat important in our every day lives....how about we ban driving with dogs in your lap? we dont need dogs to be with us when we drive and if we do, there are other seats. that is very unsafe and should be looked into.

Some drivers should be banned from driving. Seriously, if the govt. takes away anything else what will be left? Just use your head, why do "they" have to think for us?

I think cell phones should be allowed for drivers to use with a hands free device. Otherwise they should be outlawed.

I have been in multiple situations where some jackass has almost caused an accident because (s)he was too busy talking on the phone to pay attention to driving their vehicle.
