This could have come out differently. People in North Korea dropped like flies from malnutrition. Children collapsed and died at their desks at school. Many were kept alive by drinking thin soup brewed from tree bark. Others were poisoned by toxins in the corn cobs they ate to stop their stomach pains.

Our compassionate conservative president could have had it both ways. Humanitarian hero and keeper of the peace. Kim Jong Il is a nerd and that figured into Bush's diplomatic calculus. Dying babies and intelligently combating nuclear proliferation did not.

All he needs is to entice US interest and meet US officers on bilateral talks. he's able to provide up nukes on 2 situations interior your budget help and worldwide popularity and an insurance that US won't attack him. the US won't settle for that, of course, and it is waiting to tolerate a nuclear armed North Korea as long because it gets sufficient ensures that none of those weapons will lead to hands of terrorists. No huge deal particularly. the large problem is for China, South Korea and Japan. None of them needs a North Korea with nuclear skill and that could spark a nuclear race in the section, with Japan and South Korea procuring their very own arsenal of nukes. this is a nightmare scenario for China.

Actually no if it weren't for the United States the North Koreans would be starving. If Kim Jong wasn't spending all his countries resources on developing nukes then maybe he could feed his own people.

Obviously you don't know much about history or you would know a little more about the Korean war and realize that not just Bush who has put sanctions on North Korea.

Sounds like to me your just another U.S. hater. I wouldn't be surprised if your a citizen. Another American buying into the world's hate America propaganda.

Well, I don't know what you are asking but the US had every right to place sanctions on North Korea, about 5 years ago.

They were caught red handed counterfiting massive amounts of US currency. Only about 1 in 10 US dollars the North Korean embassies, etc used were real.

Man I would sanction them too, they were lucky they didn't get more.

P.S: I am a liberal and I support a war against NK. rogue nations have no right to arm themselves with nuclear weapons and get away with it. You have to know your history

North Korea has been poor since the communists took over.

Bush essentially said that since North Korea completely disregarded all previous treaties restricting them from enriching uranium, that he was not going to have talks with them until they come to the table with something. What else could he have possibly done? Given them billions of dollars more to try a 'do-over'?

the reasons the sanctions were used was to apease the people to try to mediate first..and for your information said publicly three times that he hoped this would work but had his doubts..who you should blame is jimmy carter and billy clinton for selling them the reactor plans in the first place ..that was the scandle deal i remember well trying to open more trade with china,,that's where al gore was caught taking campaign money from the chinese monks..can you remember or are you liberaly blind!

Yep. It was Dubya's adept foreign policy that diplomacized North Korea off the Non-Proliferation Treaty in 2003.

Dubya doctrine is talk tough and choke on your pretzels. It's just not as commanding as talk softly and carry a big stick.

I can see the Iraq logic warming up. So we made a lot of hair brained playground mentality mistakes getting here but now we have no choice. We have to commit troops and stay until someone else stands up. We have no control and no one else could have done it better.
