When you were still at school, or now even what sort of topics did you like to learn about.
eg WWI and most wars in general as they are the most intresting and relevant to study.

You can say any time period or general topic (eg medicine)you want.
Thanks

The diary of Samuel Pepys, without a doubt. He kept a diary back in the 1660s, lived through the bubonic plague and the great fire of London and wrote an eye-witness account of it all. Totally fascinating!!

Anybody know what he did the night he stayed in an inn, needed a pee - then found that the maid had forgotten to leave a chamber pot under his bed?

......Told you it was fascinating!

I am interested in many different topics or time periods in history. I like variety. However, I would say that probably World War II with an emphasis on the Holocaust would be my pick as the most interesting. I'll revise that. I'm interested in how the war was effecting REAL people where they lived. For example, the internment of Japanese-Americans in the United States or the Japanese invasion of countries like China and Korea. But essentially anything that era I find interesting.

I find the wars of the roses interesting. The king had the power to decide who were the lords and the lords had the power to decide who was the king. The political too-ing and fro-ing as everyone wanted to be on the winning side whilst the serfs just got on with their daily life.

I am also interested in Chinese and Indian history. Two great cultures that have lasted, or have they? Is the original Indian culture, Hindi, Aryan or the obscure Harrapan? Are the modern Chinese really the ancient Chinese decendants or is the Chin Empire just a useful name to be claimed by various powers as they rise in that region?

I like WWII, because not only did it have a ton of stuff going on, it was occurring in a lot of regions. Most interestingly, almost everyone in my grandparents' generation was involved in some way or another, and generally they love to share stories about it.

I also like to learn about Vietnam, but it's a touchy subject for a lot of people who were there.

So my short answer is, recent history because I can ask people who are still alive about it. Since I work with elderly people, it is a great ice-breaker to get them talking about their lives.

WW1 and the utter stupidity of the Officers in charge of the military tactics. They were using strategies from the roman era. Ridiculous and it cost the lives of millions of men. Stubborn brits that we were.
I also enjoyed reading about the SS and why so many foreigners joined the fight against our allied troops.

I studied the Egyptians for my GCSE History. I find that fascinating and encouraged me to go to Egypt.
I did World War 2 for A level and it concentrated on Hitler. As my Dad's family are Jewish and live in Israel I found this very interesting as it was always a taboo subject in our family as most of that side were killed in concentration camps.

Soviet history is good because there are so many "what if's?".

On a more light hearted note I did really enjoy learned about the industrial revolution in Britain with all the entrepreneurs and their cotton mills.
