If your serious about getting a larger range find a voice teacher, they should be able to help. If not, when you go to hit a high note stick your tongue out and open your mouth really wide until your voice is more comfortable with it. Or you can always sing with the feeling of a yawn in the back of your throat, but that can be hard. All of these things have helped me, a former Alto, advance to First Soprano.

I agree that getting a vocal coach would be of help. I have two warm-ups that I use to help me stretch my range.
1. Go up and down a 5-note scale using "meow". (I know it sounds silly, but it worked for me.)
2. (Also during warm-ups) Imagine that you are 7 years old again. Your voice should come out higher and softer. Don't try and push the sound.
You should always warm up your voice before trying to sing out fully in the higher range. Your vocal coach will tell you about raising the soft pallete in your mouth. That is where the sound will vibrate. The more often you warm up and work your range, the higher you will go!
Best of luck!

Same problem i had.I guess u will get an answer from ur people,,(i m from india)
But here in india if u go to learn classical music(vocal),u will b taught to wake up in morning at 4.00,take ur TAANPURA,/VEENA AND WORK ON THE LOWER MOST chords(i know very less about western terminology of music).
The thing is,as u practice more and more low pitch, the capacity of ur voice to reach more and more high increases and also the stability too.

Go to a vocal coach. I myself am doing this. Once you learn how to support your voice better, you be amazed at your potential.

Practice practice practice. However if it hurts u could be damaging your vocal cords so you may want to get help from a coach.
