mulipy both sides out
8-24x = 20x+30
put xs on one side and numbers on the other
-22=44x
divide each side by 44
-22/44 = x
or
-1/2= x

So you need to solve that?the first thing you want to do is multiply 8 by 1 and then by -3x.this should give you 8-24x.Multiply 5 by 4x and 6 on the other side.Your problem should now read
8-24x=20x=30.You want to have the variable on one side and the noumbers on the other.You would add 24x to the both sides, which now gives you 8=44x= 30.Then subtract 30 from both sides and you have-22=44x.Then divide both sides by 44 and you have -22 over 44.Reduced this would be negative one half.

x : 8(1 - 3x ) = 5 (4x + 6)
= x:8-24x= 20x+30
=x: 22= 44x
x: 22 over 44
x: = 1/2
It is not negative because -8+30= 22 not -22

8(1 - 3x ) = 5 (4x + 6)
8 - 24x = 20x + 30
-24x = 20x + 30 - 8
-24x - 20x = 30 - 8
-44x = 22
44x = -22
x = -22/44
x = -1/2

x = 8(1 - 3x) = 5(4x +6)
x = 8 - 24x = 20x + 30 (-8)
x = -24x = 20x + 22 (-20x)
x = -44x = 22 (/44)
x = -0.5
Hope it helps!

8(1 - 3x ) = 5 (4x + 6)
distributive property gives us
8-24x=20x+30
add 24x to both sides
8=44x+30
subtract 30 from both sides
-22=44x
divide both sides by 44
x=-22/44
x=-1/2

Distribute the 8 and the 5 to what is in the parenthesis; then look at it again.

Distributive property. 8-24x=20x+30
Add and subtract to get like terms together:
-22=44x
Now, divide to get x alone:
-22/44=x
And now reduce:
-1/2=x
Easy as pi. ;)...that's a math joke.

Loads of good answers already, except Shaun lost a negative in his answer.
It is x=-1/2
