I take Yasmin and it says to use protection for the first seven days after you start taking them for the first time. So I would say a week. There is usually a little booklet that comes with the pills that tells you how to take them and when it is safe to stop using other methods.

And to all those people who say to wait a month to "see if they are working". How do you know they are working unless you have sex.

Depending on the woman and the specific pill, they can become effective the first 2 weeks she is on them or it may take as long as 3 months. The insert that comes with them will explain the best course of action. You should also be using another contraceptive the first week of each pack.

When I got on the pill, I was told that it would kick in about a few weeks to a month. So, just to be on the "safer" side, I'd say a month.

Good luck.

They're most likely effective after a day or two. But who wants to take a chance like that. Wait at least one cycle and also continue to use condoms especially if you're with multiple partners.'

The medical advice is to use protection along with the pill for the first week.

To be safe I would give it a full cycle of pills (one month), to be sure that everything is working the way it should.
