Unfortunately, it could take several months before your mother actually sees money in the mailbox---assuming the ex-spouse is employed and therefore garnishable and not self-employed.
If the ex complies with the judges order your mother would likely see the first check within 45 days. If he is difficult and ignores the order, additional court hearings will be necessary and it could drag things out to 2-6 months.
At some point, even if he is self-employed or difficult, he will find himself facing jail time if he does not come up with the ordered support in addition to most states suspending his drivers license. He would also have any income tax returns seized and turned over for support.
Regardless of the situation, your mother has an absolute OBLIGATION to her children to get into court and have the a support order entered the same way her ex has an absolute obligation to PAY whatever is ordered.
If your mother does not have much money, make sure she is aware that ALL states will provide FREE legal aid to her regarding an order for support. All she needs to do is contact her county attorneys office and tell them the circumstances.
Hope that helps!
PS
You should never assume that you cant collect and therefore it isn't worth the time. Even in the toughest cases, once the judgement is entered, it will interfere with many facets of his life until it is paid. He wont be able to get a loan, buy a house or a car, he will have to continue changing jobs, his license in nearly all states will be suspended and last, but not least, he WILL be put in
jail if they can locate him after he has continued to show contempt for the court for a period of time. Most normal people will eventually find it easier to pay.
Once the judgement is entered, the amount can continue to add up for years and interest can be charged on top of that. It is possible that 15 years after the fact a person pays off the support when they find out they cant get their new dream house or some other similar circumstance because they show a large judgement on the credit report.

If you are referring to child support from your father, you may never get it. First, your mom needs to apply. The more info she has on your dad (i.e. his current address, work location, social security number) the faster they will find him. But then, they will send him notification that he owes child support. This can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months. If he complies quickly, he may send money directly to your mother or choose to go through the state agency. If he chooses to go through the state agency, it might be delayed by 1 to 2 months. If he decided NOT to comply with the order at all, then your mother will have to follow up with the child support agency and get them to file a garnishment of wages. This means they will notify him and his company that garnishment of wages will take place within 30-60 days. In that time, your father may quit or change jobs and your mom will have to start the process all over again. In the long run, it really depends on the responsibility level of your father. Child support payments are NOT something every man wants to pay... And, after it is all said and done, YOU don't get the money. Your mother does. That money is supposed to be used to help support your needs and it is up to her how to spend it. Good luck with this. It is not the easiest thing in the world to do and your mom may be reluctant because she knows your father won't pay anyways. If you have a good relationship with your dad (and it doesn't sound like you do), you might talk to him directly about helping out with the bills in your household. Good luck with that.

Are you trying to get support from your dad? If your mom goes to the court, and gets an order from the judge for support, it takes a few days to process the paperwork, then you (or your mom) can send the court ordered amount to his employer for the wage garnishment, it takes about 2-3 weeks after that to get your first payment usually. If you are in a state where the employer needs to send the funds to a trust (ie- state run program like we have here in California) it can take an extra week.
If this is you going after suppose for your child from his/her father, the process takes the same amount of time, but the funds go to you directly not your mom. If your father is who owes the money, the funds go to your mother not you directly. Good luck

If father pays it to court, it shouldn't be too long. Is it covered in a court order or has your Mom not requested any at all yet? I can't tell from your question if the child support is for your support. If so, doesn't your Mom take care of expenses and doesn't the money go to her? If support money has not yet been determined or payments coming in, it will take several months.

It could be years....depends on how long it takes to serve your father, and if he actually pays, or if your mom has to take him back to court to garnish wages. Besides, the money won't be YOURS, it will go to your mother. Once you are 18, the gravy train stops honey....so if your mom doesn't want it....too bad, you might have to get a job.
If your mom waits to file until after you are 18, then she will not get any payments at all...no back payments.

use the money for an english class. My head hurts from trying to understand your question? Child support should also go to your mother to help pay your bills. It should not go to you to blow at the mall!

I guess your mother is rich.If she has not gone for support by now I guess she does not need it or she does not know who to get it from . I have a daughter ( now39) & when my life left me I was ordered to pay $ 60.00 a month . I was in the army & at war inViet Nam.. So even in war I took my family dueties seriously.
