I have been on the same pill for 8 months, the first 6 months were fine and last month I had spotting and cramping while taking my active pills. This month I am having cramping and a lot of clear liquid discharge, but no spotting. I haven’t missed a pill, and I took two pregnancy tests last month and they were negative.
I went to the doctor last week and he said I was not pregnant (but he didn’t give me a test) and said it was just a common thing that happens with the pill. I am thinking about just throwing them all out and using condoms until my hubby and I plan to conceive in January. I still have a 4 month supply of pills left (cost me $50!), but I am sick of the constant cramping. After 5 years straight of taking the pill, my body needs a break!
Should I just throw out my birth control pills now since we plan to conceive in 3 months?
Could I be pregnant even though I have no other pregnancy symptoms?
Can a doctor tell if you are pregnant from your yearly exam?

Can't tell if you are pregnant or not. After taking them for five years . you really should give your body a rest. The pill are not really good to take for an extended amount of time.

I suggest you talk to the doctor who prescribed the pill, there are probably side effects brought about by taking the pills or the brand of the pill you're taking doesnt suits you. You may need to change to another brand. Most OB GYNE I know lets a woman take a break from pills every 6 months too.
Since you are planning to get pregnant in about 3 months, you may stop using your pills. It is said that some pills have a high effect of birth control for a longer period of time thus some women dont get pregnant at once after they have stopped taking pills. That is also why some doctors can let there patients rest from pills for a month every 6 months.
There are also cases that women still experienced a monthly period but is already pregnant, but that is very rare. If you had your normal monthly cycle and you didnt missed any pill and you faithfully take it up at a specific time everyday, then you're unlikely to be pregnant.

Since you want to conceive soon yes I would stop taking the pill worst that can happen you get pregnant early. By stopping them you will have a better chance of getting pregnant when you want because your body's egg cycle should be normal again
It doesn't sound like you are preg and I don't think a A Dr can tell by just an yearly exam

1. Yes you should throw out the pills if you are planning to get pregnant in 3 months. Even if you weren't having crazy symptoms, you should still give your body time to get those hormones out of your system so everything will be safe for your baby. It would be best to get your body back to normal before getting pregnant.
2. I guess you could be pregnant. Even if you take the pill exactly how it says you should, there is still a very small chance you can get pregnant.
3. I'm not sure if he could tell you are pregnant. I think they would have to give you a test to find out since you would be so early along.
Even if you think you are pregnant, stop taking the pills. If you continue to take them and you are, it could be detrimental to the embryo. If you aren't pregnant, lay off of them anyway. Let your body get the pills out of your system so everything will be perfect for when you do conceive. Best of luck to you.

If the pills are bothering you I would stop taking them. Since you are planning to start TTC in three months yes you should because it can take three months or longer to get it out of your system, especially since you have been on them for so long.
Yes your doctor can tell if you are pregnant by your yearly exam, your cervix is closed during pregnancy and doctors can notice the difference in a pregnant and nonpregnant cervix.

I think that is a very good idea, to have them out of your system when you start trying to concieve!! and when you do I have a fun web site for you to try out... it's call twoweekwait.com it has ALL kinds of things on there as well as forums with other women who are trying to conceive!! But remember that when you get off the pill it might not take very long for you to conceive... I was off for one full cycle and got pregnant the very next month... sorry that has nothing to do with you question but, I'm excited your fixing to try!! I'm 5 weeks and was on the pill for 4 years. God bless
oh and as far as the discharge... I got a very heavy discharge as soon as the egg implanted in my uterus... and then (not to be gross) it turns more yellow... You can also see in your urine that it brightens up too. You might have taken a test too early... try it again! They have CHEAP ones at the dollar general for one dollar and they are just as accurate as the expensive ones!! Thats what i found out on 4 days before I missed my period!!
also one other sign besides the discharge is everything down there was alot softer than normal... too much info I know... sorry

If these pills are making you cramp all the time then DO NOT take them anymore! It's also a good idea to have a full gyn exam before you get pregnant just to make sure every thing is ok.

If you are planning to get pregnant in January then you should get off the pill anyway. It takes 2 months or so for your body to get back to "normal" after you stop taking them.
After going to your doctor and taking two tests you probably are not pregnant.

I would throw them out now if you are planning to try to get pregnant soon. You want all the hormones to be out of your system so that they won't affect your eggs or the new baby. Be sure to take a very good multi-vitamin during the planning stage too....you and your husband should both take vitamins. This is to help ensure a healthy baby to come. I'm not sure about the period problems...if I were you...I'd call and talk to your doctor's nurse (or speak to him personally over the phone) with those questions. Write them down first so you will be prepared when you speak to him/her.
