...he seems to be a good bet to bring back some much needed bi-partisanship and a reasonably appealing, articulate and intelligent Republican canidate with some non-manufactured integrity to his credit?

Also, does this relate to the absurd character smearing that Carl Rove, with Dubya's smirky approval, gave to him in South Carolina in 2000?

Die-hard conservatives don't like McCain because he is not an extreme conservative. He is very much like the neo-cons (Democrats who turned Republican when the socialists purged moderates from the party) who you are saying dislike him.

He has a lot in common with neo-cons, not a lot in common with conservatives. Although he is to the right side of the moderate middle.

who cares, they are the HUGE minority. If republicans want to hold on to the presidency, they are going to need someone like McCain to make it happen. If not, there will be an even bigger rise in 'neo-libs'! lol

I am not that sure they do dislike him that much. I am sure the thought of Hillary in the White House- AGAIN will convince them to support this great American hero, and to make sure Hillary will not win, take Rudy Giuliani as his VP.

He's a pro-choice, anti-torture, moderate republican who is more in tune to the american public's real desires. What's not to hate?
