I have worked at my current employer for 2 years. The past 2 months I have been taking days off to substitute teach. I am going to take the Praxis test next month to get my teaching certificate. I am scheduled to substitute this week but I don’t have the guts to tell my boss that I will be out again without her thinking that I have another job. Eventually, I do want to leave. I think what is holding me back (other than the fact that I don’t like to let people down) is that I have a family to support. On the other hand, I can not stand my job and I want to start to follow my dreams. When should I quit my job and how?

If following your dreams is important to you.....explain to your boss that you're pursuing your dreams. Thank her for the opportunity to work for her while you studied to be a teacher. Let her know this is something that you've always wanted to do and now that you have the opportunity to do this, you'd like to put in your 2 or 3 weeks notice while lining up your teaching days. Don't be afraid to let her know you're subbing for now until after you've taken the tests for your certificate. If she's the type of boss that's understanding about pursuing your dreams surely she'll root for you...if she's a witch, she might just say "bye".. but rest assure you're doing what you want to do...what you've always wanted to do. I have to say I've always admired teachers because that's a very demanding and sometimes thankless job. I applaud you for wanting to do this....Go for your dreams... If you want something bad enough, anything is possible :)
Good luck!

I think you should be honest with your employer. Tell her that you have decided to follow your dream of teaching. Ask her if in the meantime (until you get a full time teaching job) if you could work for her on the days you are not asked to sub. She may say no, but she may say yes! Never put your dreams on hold if they are within arms reach!!!

Give two week notice and say the reason is because you have something better lined up. Be sure this is right for you before you put it into writing. You are a proffesional lady and so, be brave and conquer the world. Nothing is holding you back but, your fears.

Just in case u need it for a refrence, I would go to the boss and give them a 2 week notice, so they can train
someone else to take your place. This way you are not leaving on bad terms. And they will respect you for it...
