Tell her that if you get a hampster you will let your brother look after the birds providing you get to look after the hampster on your own. (You can take care of the birds when your parents or brother aren`t looking or are out), that way you get the best of both worlds, just let your brother think he`s taking care of the birds.

Spelling the word correctly might be a start, Hamster.

Your parents could be right. You should try and just keep one pet at a time, believe me, the responsibilty can build up, and you'll eventually get bored w/ the hamster anyways. Hamsters stink, and require constant cage-cleaning. They also aren't very active during the day, which would most likely be the time where you would want to "play" with the hamster.

It's also very difficult to get a friendly hamster unless you get a very young one that looks less wild, and you are able to train it carefully, so that it learns to not bite, and to be calm and remain in the cage.
I've had a few hamsters, and I had one for over 5 years, (lifespan is 2-3 years) and he never even bit me once.

But it's cool that you've read up on the hamster before you got it. Smart thinking.

Any extra information that might support you could be found on www.wikipedia.com, but again, you probably won't want the hamster a few months after you get it.

First, learn to spell it... you want a "hamster".

Next, are you responsible about caring for your birds? It really may not be a "fighting with your brother" issue so much as a "do you have the time to care for another pet?".

Is your homework up to date and your grades good? Do you regularly (and without being asked) do your other chores and lessons (piano, dance, yardwork, etc)? What about the condition of your bedroom? Is it clean all the time?? In reality, you might really not want another pet if you've got a lot of other things you need to care for.

You need to think about why you don't want your brother playing with your birds. Is he younger and hurts them? Does he let them fly about and won't help get them back into their cage? You have to give your mom some good reasons why you don't let him play with your birds. Birds are delicate and easily injured. I'm sure she doesn't want vet bills!!

Examine your motives for wanting another pet. It's possible your mom may be wanting you to show more maturity too.

Good luck!

Tell your mom that you'll give your birds to your brother so that you'll have only the hampster to care for.
Buy two hampsters and give one to your brother so that he'll have one to play with so there will be no reason to fight.

Good luck!!!!!

Well, my parents were the same way when i wanted my first guinea pig. I had to get hermit crabs, and prove to them that i could take care of my own pet. But understand that if you get a hamster, a. they are alot of work, you have to clean the cage, play with them, feed them, and sometimes if they get sick, take them to the vet. Well, the best thing i can say is to just try to show her that you will be able to handle birds and a hamster...try to strike a deal with her...

Let your brother play with your animals or tell her that your going to take care of both. Or get rid of the birds or give them to your brother. If not that then its too bad.

i convinced my mom be saying that this was a learning tool for me, tell your mom that it will help you to learn how to take care of other animals, tell her that your birds are great and you love them but a hamster is more lovable more handable and you can talk to your hamster to be friends unlike your birds, and explain that you will not forget your birds, and explain that your hamster will need excercise in his ball and so your brother can help to keep an eye on him and you will help teach him the responsibility of having mutiple pets, and try to get a teddy bear hamster they are the best and they are friendly

Let him have your birds. Hamsters are more fun! Get a Dwarf Hamster if they let you get one. They are cheaper and easier to keep. If anyone tells you they bite dont listen to them. If they do bite it doesnt hurt it just scares you.
