i just want to mail a pair of shoes...and ups is MUCH closer to my house--.5 mile than USPS--about 12 miles. so i would rather take the package to ups, but i am afraid they are extremely expensive. is there much difference? just as long as the package arrives to the receiver in a week, its fine. what do you think? any guess as to how much that will be. I KNOW I CAN GO TO THEIR WEBSITE, so please dont tell me to refer to that. i just want to know from a person who uses ups a lot instead. thanks!

Yes, UPS can be pretty pricey. You can expect to pay several dollars more with them that with the USPS. It may be worth it to you for the covenience of not having to drive further. The price is determined by weight and where you are shipping to, so it's hard to be very exact, but definitely expect several dollars more.

UPS will be more expensive, but it's pretty much guaranteed to get there in a week (5-day ground shipping), whereas USPS is a little more variable (You can overnight stuff with USPS, if need be).

Whenever I send a package, I use the online rate calculators for USPS, UPS and FedEx. USPS is usually cheaper than UPS, but FedEx has always dominated both of them. I would definitely use the rate calculators on their sites to be sure though.
