Your heart beats to pump blood around, your blood carries oxygen, your tissues use oxygen to make energy. The more strain you are under the more energy/oxyegn you need. The faster your heart pumps to meet these needs.
During normal exercise your heart rate should be around 140 (if your in your thirties) under exteme exercise its going to be higher. So its not unheard of for this to happen. Other factors can give you normal variation such as anemia making your heart have to work harder.
That said most women still dont get as high as you've stated.
Some women's heart will start to give out from the stress of pregnancy. Its called Peri-Partum Cardiomyopathy. This can lead to a higher heart rate.
And yet again the stress of delivery could have unmasked an underlying conduction probablem (falty wiring in your ticker).
In any event most of the abnormalities of your pregnancy go back to normal within a few months. Follow up as normal with your doc.

The stress of being in labor can cause tachycardia (rapid heartbeat).
Also, there are physiologic changes that occur during pregnancy that affect your heart, including an increase in blood volume.
Sometimes, women who have cardiac problems will not see any evidence of those problems until the stresses of pregnancy and labor cause symptoms.
In order to figure out what caused the high heart rate, more information is needed - duration of the high HR, what an EKG tracing showed at the time, drugs you received, if any, hydration status, other medical problems you may have, etc.
The "funny jumps" could be premature ventricular contractions (which are harmless) or SVT (supraventricular tachycardia), which is harmful only if you have other symptoms with it (chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, and so on).
If you think there may be a problem, consult a cardiologist. They can do tests such as an EKG, echocardiogram or Holter monitor to see if there is any reason to be concerned.
Good luck, and congrats on the new baby!

I would ask a doctor. If your doctor can't give you a good answer, consider asking another doctor.
Are these funny jumps during the labor? Are they caught on a monitor, or do you feel them?
Most changes in heart beat are caused by backwash of blood through the chambers. It's possible that one of the valves was damaged during labor.
You should be able to live a normal life, but I would definitely ask your doctor about risks involved for future pregnancies.

Tachycardia during L & D is a result of the physical and emotional stress of the event. You, however, may have some underlying condition that warrants further evaluation. I advise you to see your primary health care provider. Your primary may wish to refer you to a Cardiologist for a full work up. In the meantime, keep a diary of any cardiac events you experience - the times of occurrence, duration, a description of the event and any other symptoms you feel during the events. Take this with you to your primary and to the Cardiologist.

In april I had a triplet miscarrage and only one of the placentas came out. I lost a HUGE amt of blood and had a D&C. When I left the hospital my Hemoglobin was 6.8 and it slowly got better. Im sure it was just from lack of blood and the Dr may not have realized how much you actually lost.

my heart used to jump all the time when i was pregnant, it scared the crap out of me...my doctor said something like that is common because the baby is putting a massive amount of stress on your body...
my heartrate was fast during labor, its because you are breathing, panting, over-exerted and excited because of what is happening...adrenaline kicks in and that can cause it too...
but if you are worried about the jumps, go talk to your doctor
