I know my child support check has been issued but it's taking forever to get here.Is there a way I can go to the post office and see whether it is there?

You have to wait till it comes to you. The post office process millions of millions of mail everyday. There are lots of steps to process each mail. If it was mailed First Class, the minimum is 2 days. Maybe you should ask the courts to have your child support direct deposit to your account. Is this coming from your ex-husband/boyfriend directly? Then I definitely ask for a direct deposit.

Some post offices, especially small town ones will hold your mail for you to pick it up, instead of sending it out with the carrier. You can always ask them what your options are, it can't hurt.

First of all, you need to find out when it was mailed. You want to get yourself a p.o. box to have very important pieces of mail sent there. That way you'll always know where it's at and it's safer there.
