I live in Georgia also, call Clark Howard at WSB Radio in Atlanta between about 1PM and 4PM and ask the question above. He will assist you in working towards it.

You are trying to avoid bad credit, they will not write off that much, you will be turned over to collection agencies that will bother the hell out of you and threaten you will all sorts of things.

Call Clark Howard tomorrow. He has an organization working for him to assist people like you. The first thing he will tell you is to tear up your credit cards and live on what you have, paying the cards off as quickly as you can. Most credit card companies will work with you and there are special groups, let him recommend them, that will intercede with you and work out payment plans.

They do a charge off. Seize your bank accounts and ruin your credit history. How stupid are you? Get a second job, arrange a payment schedule with the company and pay off the card debt. I'm assuming they cancelled your card.

They will harrass you until they get tired of it, then they will turn the debt over to a collection agency who will harass you to an even greater extent until they get tired of it, then they will write off the debt and you will owe income taxes on the amount written off, which the IRS WILL collect. Oh, and even after that, they can sell your debt for collection to collectors for pennies on the dollar and they can harass you endlessly. And they will report the non apyment on your credit rating, which will continue to show as a negative on it for a period of 5 years.

They'll come after anything else you have. Don't screw up your life over 5k. There are enough people on here asking how they can get a car loan or home loan with bad credit. You charged it, now it's time to pay it.

They will make their best effort to collect it. Don't do this to yourself - it will haunt you forever! Try and at least make an effort to pay it off and STOP SPENDING MONEY!!!! I know that it is hard but it will definitely pay off. 1 more piece of advice CUT CUT CUT CUT ALL of your credit cards if you don't have the money to pay for it right then and there, then you CAN'T afford it. You will sleep easier.

if you do not pay it they will send it to collections. If you do not pay collections your credit will be ruined.
