Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as 'my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these 'my body needs something' sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the 'want something' feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we've had one we still have the feeling, and want another!

Ive tried quitting a few times, and cold turkey was the most effective, least painful method. Smoke free for 20 days and counting!

I have tried the cold-turkey method and I was fixing to kill someone. The best way I found for me was to ween myself from it. I got to where I would only take a couple of puffs of a cigerette everytime I smoked.
**To save cigerette, cut off the cherry and give a blow through the filter. This will blow out the small amout of smoke still in the cigerette and keep it from tasting stale when you relight it..

Cold Turkey was the only way it worked. It's nearly nine months now since I left it. No cheating. Not a single puff. Best of Luck to you too !

getting rid of smoking...it's in YOU!!!you have to have self control...you cannot easily quit smoking...Maybe you should try reducing one stick in a day...then next month reduce 2 sticks in a day....and so on...And one day you will realize that you stop smoking...
Smoking is like burning your money...and Smokers dont grow old...because they just die YOUNG...so if you want to grow old....try to reduce one stick at a time okey?Always remember we only live once....so let's better live life to the fullest....
