Pros - You can win a lot. It raises a lot of money for charity. It raises a lot of tax that can be spent on public improvements. Everyone has an equal chance of winning. You can play as many times as you like. You can play every week.
Cons - It encourages gambling type habits. There is a very small chance of winning a large amount. Big companies that run lotteries can make big profits out of us. It leads people to wishful thinking - "all I need to do is put my numbers on and one day they'll come up and everything will be fine", rather than "I'm going to sort my life out now", big wins can tear families apart from arguments over the new found wealth

There are no pros. The lottery has been called the "poor man's tax". It sells a dream of winning a large amount of money when the chances of doing so are virtually non-existant. People become addicted to it, you can buy the tickets practically anyplace and people throw away money they can't afford. You have a better chance of being hit by lightening than you do of winning the lottery.

Well personally i dont like the concept of lottery because it simply falls into the category of gambling however the possible positive side is when we have national or state lotteries in which the proceeds go for developmental purposes. Anyways gambling is so rampant this is a good twist to it.

I don't know of any PROS for it, but I do know the CONS:
First, the majority of the people who play are at a financial disadvantage in that they are usually the poorer members of society (on welfare, disability and social security), hence, they don't have the resources to spend monies on that which they cannot afford.
Many of these people are on a fixed income and are spending beyond their means by giving this money to the state.
None of this money is ever seen by those playing as most people who win have substantial amounts of money already (well employed, fiscally sound).
There are also mostly Caucasion. The larger numbers of players are Black, Hispanic, etc (minorities).
Another CON is that the money was supposed to fund some needy division of government (In Illinos it was the schools), but not one dime of that money ever makes it to it supposed destinantion.
CON 3 - Many of those who win are bankrupt within one year of winning because they were used to not having money, and suddenly they did and went on spending sprees they otherwise could neven do.
I could go on...

Pros are so slim they are not worth considering. Put your money in a good investment account, don't touch it and you would be better off in the long run
