I'll give you a person who is inspiring yet very underrated. In fact, I would not hesitate to call him the Greatest Living American, but probably no one reading this has heard of him. Do your biography on Norman Borlaug.
He is an agricultural scientist and humanitarian. Borlaug helped lead the "green revolution" which vastly increased food production, saving many lives in the third world. By some estimates, he is responsible for saving over one billion (billion, not million) people from starvation.
There are numerous articles and biographies on him, you'd be able to get the sources you need for a great paper. Your teacher would be very impressed that you picked someone unique but still undeniably great. What could be more inspirational than saving a billion lives? Oh, and did I mention that he won both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Nobel Peace Prize?

From what era of history? If you haven't one, I would suggest John Adams, our second president. I kind of consider him the "forgotten" Founding Father, but he is as, if not more important than, Washington, Jefferson, Franklin. There a couple excellent biographies out there, and he was truly a fascinating and important person.

an inspiring person, eh? well, this could be a famous celebrity, politician, a member of your family perhaps. generally, someone you look up to for inspiration and who is an idol in your eyes. but whoever you choose, make sure its not a person who is well known for being notorious for numerous things and/or of being a bad person. in that they influence you in particular. also, take into consideration, what is it about that person that makes them tick, write about their past, history, achievements- past and present. hope this helps. good luck!
