Pay your bills. Anyone who you owe money can put a lien on your home so that if you go to sell it they can recoop their losses. They can not take away your primary residence.
Get caught up with bills. Take a second job. Get a consolidation firm to help you with credit card bills. If it is health bills they can do nothing.

the 1st guy had it right. If you are a worthy person who fell into a bad situation there might be help for you. If you are that person the only chance you have is to sell your home to someone you know who can get a new loan and then rent it back from them. Or you might try begging the lender for more help. If they help you, will have to agree and keep what terms you all agree on. That is the only 2 ways you might have a chance on not losing your home.

You can't prevent it but it is illegal to do just to harrass you. If your bills are paid this is harrassment. If this is a disputed bill it could also be harassment.
As for unpaid bills, this is a way to make sure those get paid. That said, make arrangements to pay up and stick to them.
In either case a lawyer may be of help as laws vary from state to state.

You could homestead your house. That works on most creditors except the IRS. One bad thing about homestead, is that you can no longer use your house for collateral.

Pay contractors and subcontractors. Some contractors don't pay subs very well (if at all), so you need to step in and make pressure.
