I saw this chair on Unsolved Mysteries, and it was a chair at some tavern, where some man died in it but put a curse on it before he did. After that, everyone who sat in the chair died. It now sits in a museum well out of reach, so that nobody can sit in it "for kicks" and possibly die. Does anyone remember seeing this, or know what they call the chair? I've tried Search Engine, but since I have next to nothing to go on, I can't find it. If you know the name, or the museum where the chair is, please let me know. I'm bored at work, and wanted to read up on it online. Thanks.

The infamous Busby Stoop Chair

Thomas Busby, coiner and drunkard, murdered his father-in-law Daniel Auty in 1702. He was arrested, tried and condemned to death by hanging.

After his execution his corpse was suspended in chains from a gibbet erected at the lonely crossroads where the Busby Stoop Inn now stands. The inn takes name from the post or stoop on which his remains could be seen.

The place was said to be haunted by his ghost, and a chair at the inn gained a sinister reputation. Wartime bomber pilots thought it unlucky to sit there, and in the 1970s some fatal accidents were linked with the chair.

In 1978 the landlord asked for the chair to be removed to the Museum, and hung out of harm’s way. It has not been sat on since.

This is what i remember of a story:

Someone sentenced to death (the crime escapes me) was allowed his one last request of one more night of drinking in his favorite chair in the local pub. As he was lead away to his death, he said, "Death shall come to any who sit in my chair."

And it has. For awhile, people would dare each other to sit in it, and then die under the most bizzarre circumstances. A painter who was painting the pub fell to his death after sitting in it. the maid died after falling into it while cleaning.

it now rests in a museum, four feet off the floor, hung on a wall.

I can't say I've heard of this. But I think it's funny that someone would choose a chair to curse.

Think about it - you're about to die, and you curse a chair? That just strikes me funny.

sounds like a modernization of the Siege Perilous, made popular in Arthurian lore, but based upon even older tales.
