I need help with choosing contraception. My husband got me pregnant whilst on the pill & using condoms!! I went back to using the pill & condoms, but with the pill I totally went off sex, was a moody cow & snapped at everyone. It was a blessing that I lost them & couldn't see the doctor for a while to prescribe more, because I changed overnight. I'm more loving & caring & my husband can't keep up with me in the bedroom!!! so I really don't want to go back on the pill. The problem is my Husband is super fertile & I'm not sure just using comdons will be enough. I don't want anything that messes with your hormone like the implant or injection. I was thinking of having the coil but my mum said it was painful.... I'm really confused, What sort of contraception do you use & how do you find it?

i would strongly consider looking into the mirena iud. discuss it with your physician to see if you are a candidate. whatever mood swings you got on the pill will be the same with the patch and the nuva ring as they are basically all the same medication, just a different way to give it. stay away from the depo shot, i could go into all the side effects but unless you are willing to take a chance on bleeding every day for months and gaining 30 pounds that would not be my first choice. the new iud, called mirena, is placed in your uterus for 5 yrs and is highly effective at preventing pregnancy. the copper iud is associated with heavier more painful periods, but the mirena results in lighter, less painful periods- many women have no periods at all but you may spot the first few months however this is only temporary. it may be a little uncomfortable putting it in-it is crampy- but only takes a couple minutes at the most. whenever you want to have a baby - it is extremely easy, quick and nonpainful to remove in the doctors office. look into it, women who use almost always love it.

I'm not a woman but I can offer some advice that i used as my fiance health was in risk if she got pregnant.
it all depends on if you no longer want any more children if so i recommend sterilization if that agreeable answer I would suggest he do it as it just a 1 hour procedure and sex resumes in a week for a woman it overnight surgery and no sex for 6 weeks and a lot more expensive however some guy feels it will hurt there sex drive or performance that is not true as I tube tied for 11 years and just love the fact i never have to use a condom with my partner.

I had the same issue - got pregnant on the pill, and the pill made me reeeallyy moody anyway. I have the Mirena IUD and it is the BEST decision I've EVER made. No hormones pumping through your system, no effect on your sex drive, no thinking about taking a pill or putting anything in/on. AND my periods only last a couple of days (light spotting). Look into it. I'm like a walking advertisement for it! love, love, love it.

If you plan on having children in the future, then you need a reversible form of contraception. That limits you to hormonal methods (the Pill, the Patch and the Shot) and barrier methods (IUDS, diaphragms and condoms).
If you use the pill, you need to take it at the same time every day. Missing or late doses can reduce it's effectiveness, as can certain antibiotics.
If you used condoms, you need a backup method like a diaphragm with spermacidal jelly.
Permanent methods of contraception incude vasectomy (for him), and tubal ligation (for you).
All these methods have risks and benefits and have varying levels of effectiveness. You need to discuss your birth control needs with your gynaecologist to find the best and least risky method for you.

Try the old-fashioned method of a diaphram and spermicidal. A doctor or OBGYN fits you for one, you slip it in 20 mins. before sex and you leave it in with the spermicidal for a little while afterwards to kill all the sperm. It is only a mechanical way, no side effects or hormones running through your system. And the best part is that they can last for 20 years.

Have you tried female condoms along with the male condoms?

Please please go see your doctor or go to a family planning clinic such as your local health dept. Talk to them about your options. There are a number of them out there now.
