It means someone can be outwardly beautiful, and still be an ugly person. It's what's on the inside that counts.

It means that people are carried by the outward appearance, which is temporary only. When there is an injury or accident and in the process, the skin gets damaged, then the owner of that physical body is no longer percieved as beautiful, unless of course some repair is done by way of plastic surgery to restore the old glow. That is the meaning of the idiom " Beauty is only skin deep". Threfore, if you have to look for real beauty, look into the person, his/ her mind, the attitude, the nature etc.

"Beauty is only skin deep" means the outside may be beautiful but, if the person isn't a good person - if they have bad habits or are immoral - that beauty is only "skin deep." There are not so good looking people who are "beautiful" on the inside. We put too much emphasis on looks. The heart is where one's beauty lies.

People say that as a warning. If the person has a mean or ugly character, the beauty on the outside won't be enough. Finding someone who is beautiful both inside and outside is a wonderful thing.

Just because your beautiful on the outside doesn't make you a nice person. There has to be a good personality to make a person truly beautiful, inside and out. If you're pretty and mean to everyone, nobody will like you. Beauty isn't everything.

It is a saying.
It means a lot.
I mean the beauty.
Beautiful people are always in demand and they command, power, wealth and prestige.
As far as saying goes it means "beauty is superficial". It is not a deep quality, this may be base no the fact that, all absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is not totally true any way and all sayings are base on peoples pass experience it is the one of the sayings that is very popular(well known).
It is sometime use to convince a child that, the child must not be blinded by the beauty, it might be used as a consolations.

I had chance to go back and scan all the other answers and they all look good, up to and including Keith Perry.

It is basically saying beauty is not what the person is about ...it is a cover ....for the body...and inner self . It is saying look inside of a person for the true beauty...outside beauty will leave us all eventually so you had better have something good on the inside. it is saying ..."Don't judge a book by it's cover".....What is on the outside can be deceiving....look inside to a persons heart. That is where you will find their true beauty.

Means that true beauty is found past the obvious. . ,One should look for "Inner Beauty" in a person, as "outer beauty" can cover the ugliness that can only be found once you know the person. We do have people that have both inner and outer beauty. . .

It means you can be very beautiful in looks but you can be very ugly in attitude.
Just because you are beautiful does not make you a beautiful person.
