Despite what you may think about this quandary, it is almost physically impossible. The amount of physical pain that you would be required to endure in the process of actually biting off your own finger (assuming, of course, that you even had the capability of biting straight through your bone) is too much for your body to handle without setting off immediate reflex sensors. By the time you took your first bite, your body would not allow you to continue. The only way I could fathom this actually happening was if there was no limit on time and if somebody's pain threshold was extremely high and they had a high pain tolerance. Then they might be able to make a few large incisions in their finger at a time, take a break, go back to it. In any case, you might pass out from loss of blood.
If it were possible, I probably still wouldn't do it though because half a million after taxes doesn't get you as much as you'd think these days. After a house and a car you're back to life without a finger. These are things you could buy if you just worked real hard anyway. Not worth it.

Well, I'd ask to see the contract first, and see if I could get away with gluing a Cadbury's Chocolate Finger to my hand then biting that off. I wouldn't bite off any real fingers, especially the two that I type with.

Unless if there's a condition that they'll drug me so as not to feel the pain and that they will spend for the replacement of my finger like in Star Wars -- so that it will work the same as it was -- then sure, I'll go for it!

No, I have just 4 fingers and 1 thumb left.
I'd be pretty stupid to do any such thing for such a paltry sum - or even double or quadruple that figure.
