Painting really isn't too hard. I think it is actually fun and it doesn't have to be perfect to look good.
If you are set on not using paint, then you might as well be creative: make a collage, use contact paper, decals and stickers, fabric and spray glue etc.

You can go to a Sign Manufacture and they have a vinyl machine to make the outside of signs and they could make something for you. It is the same stuff some Auto body shops use it is called body wrap.

Formica or fablon would suffice, but will certainly look better painted.

Yes but it will look ****.......Go to WH Smith it will cost you a fortune and will look like crap, painting will be cheaper
