I think the main reason that 3rd parties are getting such a low amount of votes is because people feel compelled to vote for the lesser of 2 evils...

Esspecially with the last 2 elections being so close. People Feel Compelled that voting against a cantidate is best done by voting for the guy that is in the other major party.

If more 3rd party cantidates were elected across the board then this would prevent the party line majority and bi-partisan in the House and Senate....

Take this quiz to see what political party you are...

I agree 100%. I have been talking about this same subject on Yahoo Answers for months now. Most folks here in the U.S. simply aren't very educated in a political or civic sense. They invest very little time in exploring other alternatives. Our education system is certainly to blame for this. Much too much emphasis on subjects like math and science. Very little emphasis on stuff that actually relates to the real world like political science, history, and physical education and recreation (living a healthful lifestyle), etc. I am an old political science graduate who has voted third party for years now. I constantly vote Greens or Libertarian. This would be a much better country if other folks would do the same. But they simply don't know any better. As Nader states, if people were as knowledgeable about politics as they were about sports and Hollywood, things would be much different. I agree with him. And this is coming from me, a big fan of sports AND politics.

Because US elections are not set up like they are in Canada, Great Britain, or any other of the Democratic governments of the world. Our elections are winner take all. If you cannot seat a majority in the House of Rep, or the Senent, your votes are pretty worthless. Same goes for the Presidential vote. People who push for a minor party are generally advicating voters to waste a vote that would most likely go to the opposition party.

We learned a harsh lesson when Nader ran on a third party ticket. He took votes away from the lesser of two evils and left us with the greater evil. I might even say the greatest evill this country has seen in a long time.

They would no longer be moderates, because libertarians to not represent a balanced moderate view, and offer no real solutions.
