I have all three expansion packs for the sims 2 as well as lots of downloads but suddenly my laptop refuses to load the houses, or families when i want to enter them.
My laptop specs are:
2GB ram
80GB hard drive
AMD Turion64
1.8Hz
and some other stuff
Does anyone know why it doesnt work?

First, there may be NOTHING wrong with your game. Do this simple experiment.
Reboot. Log onto your computer as a guest. Then play the sims.
If it runs, then that means your main login has a bad download. In that case, locate the bad download and delete. Your game should be running as well as it did before.
In the above case a hack or a house or other object that may have incompatibilities with your game (a hack that conflicts with another hack, for example) can halt the game. If you disable custom content. will the game run? If you put your downloads into another folder temporarily, your game will run if a download is at fault.
Make sure you have plenty of free space on your C: drive. If it is packed with programs, then the virtual memory can't do it's magic with Sims 2. In that case, you need a larger hard drive.

For all video games, such using fact the Sims 2, i might use domicile windows XP on the 2d, as lots of interest's do not artwork with Vista, with a bit of luck EA will launch a patch quickly permitting you to play the Sims 2 on your laptop

This sounds like a graphics card driver problem, find out what graphics card you have in your laptop (i.e. nvidia, ATI, etc and what model), and then go to the manufactures website and download the latest driver, BUT DONT INSTALL YET.
Uninstall the existing graphics driver in your hardware options in control panel, restart your laptop and reinstall the graphics driver with the new one you downloaded, once agin restart your pc once this has installed, and i think this will fix your problem.
Good luck.

I'd take a guess at something silly has gone wrong, simply re-install the game without deleting the saved games

Well my advice is to go to some laptop repair shop and check that if something is wrong with your laptop , secondly if there is nothing wrong with that its the game that is the problem.

there might be something wrong with your laptop, its best you get your laptop checked out and if thats not the problem then maybe its your games, have you ever had this problem before and if your games are new its best to take them back to the shop!
