Well you didn't mention if this child had been in trouble at school before or not... I mean usually isn't the 1st time a kid gets in trouble for something a verbal warning? But however, the issue here is that this 8th grader was being disrespectful!! That bothers me as it could develop into a potential problem later in life!

Check your school handbook and discipline policy. Policies vary from school to school, but an In School Suspension sounds a bit much.

No way if the teacher did not hear this then how do they choose the punishment? I would however imagine this is not a first offense.

ISS is 2 much i got ISS last year while i was in 6th grade (now im in 7th ) and i hated it i had to eat lunch with kindergartoners and i had to do nonstop work all day
i got ISS because i punched this kid and he said we were both just messing around and i got ISS

Your in ISS because of that. LOL i could see a warning or maybe 15 minutes of detention but ISS, thats ridiculous.

At our school, the teachers just say watch your language and we are fine so that would be a little harsh.

uhh...no,kids say cuss words all the time.well depends how old he is....the others could be lying to.I mean...he didnt actually say it out load to the teacher did he?He just whispered his thought outload.
