As a Chineses, it's our culture as parent, to help our children in whatever way we can to provide them with a good spring board and enhance their happiness in their lives, WITHOUT consideration whatsoever to own self fulfilment . It's a parental self denial for the "benefits" of our children. Put it simply, I've scacrific and leave all my money and assests for the benefits of my children.

"My question is:
Do the present day Western parents have the same "cultural practice". If not. what are your personal view on this matter.?

Would love to hear Western views. There is no right or wrong to this question just your like to hear Western view, Thanks

There are limits to sacrifice here. In Asian culture the children have a responsibility to take care of the parent who has taken care of them. In the American culture, the government has taken on the role of providing for senior citizens and a lot of children walk away from their parents and their responsibility to them.

As a result, most parents will help their children get started in the world and they will help out in a crisis, but they don't give up everything for the child. If they did, they would be at the mercy of the child in their older years or relying entirely on a pitiful amount of money from the government. It is better to give the child no more than they need and use the rest to build a comfortable retirement so you don't need to burden your children.

Well im only 15, but i believe we do have the same idea, Every parent wants to the lives of their children to be better than their own. And parents will probably sacrifice a lot to achieve that.

I live in USA and I think give them what they deserve, if they are good hard working people, give them a leg up, but if they are scornful and take it for granted, let them learn their lessons before you further their problems by throwing money at it.
