That's a tough one. If you are not harming anyone else, I think, generally speaking, drugs should be legal. At least "soft drugs" like pot, hash, and mushrooms. By doing so, you eliminate the need for a black market to supply the drugs, usually at an overly inflated price. That is one reason why there is so much crime associated with drug use - people steal to get the money to support their habit. Also, there is a huge amount of hypocrisy on the part of those who say that drugs should be illegal as they crack open a beer, pop some Oxycontin, and light up a cigarette. Compared to alcohol, the drugs I mentioned above (pot, hash, shrooms) don't have a very different effect from alcohol. Why should one be legal and the other not.

The bottom line is that those who want drugs will get them. Availability, cost, and legality are definitely not concerns for those looking to score. By making them legal, there can be some control over what is being sold and to who. By making drugs illegal, we are essentially sticking out heads in the sand. Keep in mind that the so called war on drugs has been waged for decades now, and has done nothing to stem the flow of drugs into our cities. Legalize, and then you can take steps to manage them.

At least that's my opinion. A very good question.

I am also a recovering meth addict, its best to leave drugs alone and get help from professionals. I lived on the drug for three years straight and have been sober for a year. I think that illegal drugs are very bad, especially meth. I congradulate you for your recovery. I know it must be hard cuz it is for me to. I am on an anti-depressant which helps, also i attend N/A meetings and go to a support group, you should find out help in your area. Good Luck to you.

Of course all drugs should be legal.to use. a million would be out of prison. The police could concentrate on REAL crimes. the taxes could cure poverty .. there was NOT any sort of problem with drugs till they made it a crime to use them.it is a free country, as long as someone is not hurting someone else. then they should be able to use drugs.just like drinking while driving it should be controlled in that way and at work. but other wise.it should be a right for all Americans .period.

This is a touchy subject for a reason. Sometimes it seems more like adults having the right to govern themselves then it is preventative of the evolving negatives in our society.

With me it's all about the substance and the social phobia. In the news there are people who misuse everything from prescriptions to personal contact even refined white sugar. I don't think it's a global issue but a personal one.

Experiment just the once under controlled circumstances and see for yourself. The major danger is overdosing on these drugs or using them irresponsibly so we get people randomly dying or getting addicted left right and center. Do it if you want to, but at least do it smart.

In my opinion that a person who uses drugs is a weak minded person who is totally lacking in moral fiber and who has earned the misery associated with drug use and when caught should be prosecuted as prescribed by law.

I am the only sober and straight person in an apt. full of druggies, and I can't relate at all. Any low rent place will be full in MA, so moving won't help. It took me years to get straight, and now this.
