scared of the unknown? i use to be scared as well when i was younger (10-16) because i was raised baptist and taught that they were all sinners...blablabla...anyway- i'm glad that i now am able to think for myself...and have changed my way of thinking...and actually desire to be with a women myself...although i've always have been in striaght relatioships..i'm very open to being with a women as well. I think they are beautiful (most)....you deff. are! We're all human...so i don't know why people are scared...i think the ones that are might be because they are a bit curious themselves..and don't want to admitt it or something.

People are afraid of what they can't understand. And there are people who feel homosexuality is wrong, and they have as much a right to their opinion as you have to yours.
I just have to mention this (and I know it will sounds like I'm a bigot, but I really REALLY don't mean to). Homo"phobic" implies that they have a fear of homosexuals. Fear and dislike can be tied together, but that term is most often used to describe people who have a dislike, not a fear, of homosexuals, usually based on a belief system that dictates that it's as wrong as any other sin. "Phobic" isn't a word that would be used to describe why people dislike thieves, liars, murderers, or in-laws. For people who feel it's a sin, it's lumped in there with all the other unlikables.
Oh, and by the way, it IS possible for someone to care about you and still think you're doing the wrong thing by pursuing your homosexual tendancies.
Edited: I don't think most people are afraid they're going to be raped by a homosexual man. Almost no women feel that way (we don't worry that a lesbian will "rape" us, and of course, we don't believe a man who isn't turned on by women will want to rape us). Heterosexual men do seem to have a nervousness that a gay man will want to get close to them, or that he's looking at him in a romantic way or whatever, but I don't think there's a fear of rape. A fear of being misunderstood (if a heterosexual man is at a party, and wants to impress girls, the worst thing that can happen to his chances of hooking up is to be mistaken for a gay man). I'm not denying the ignorance there, but it's not a fear of rape. Fear of being mistaken, or of an uncomfortable feeling.

I really don't care if someone is homophobic or not, I have an issue when they use their homophobia to interfere in my life.
I'm not going to lie about who my partner is, nor will I feign interest in their rants about their Deity, what it wants, or thinks, or says. It doesn't affect me.

people are homophobic because it is human nature to be afraid of anyone different from them.

Because their religion teaches them that people that don't subscribe to their beliefs are wrong, children of the devil, whatever you want to call them.
Furthermore, people are always worried that they will be raped by a homosexual. This fear tends to gravitate more among males than their female counterparts.
Overall, it is the result of someone who is close-minded, who cannot see people as people, but rather as a group of sub-humans that oppose what they believe.
