Most companies will make you buy out your contract. Mine has a $250 penalty if I want to cancel my contract before the contract end date.

You need to call in to Customer Service or go into the store to cancel your contract. If you are a new customer you have a certain amount of days and use of minutes on the new phone without being charged the penalty for breaking the contract. Bewared you will be charged the penalty in your final bill if you are still under contract. If it not paid it will go on to your credit report. If you are not getting service in your area - you might and I say might have an out for the termination fee.

Start by calling to let them know you want to cancel it. If they want written notice ask the name and department of the person to whom you send the letter. Write the letter. Keep a copy for yourself.

If a call is all you need you can expect to be charged for cancelling if your have not completed the term of the agreement (these days its usually two years).

If you have a prepaid phone with the agreement that they take the monthly payment from your bank or credit card you can cancel at any time by telephone as far as I know. (A letter may not be a bad idea either, though.)

Good luck! I had to go to my state congressman to cancel mine and that was because they never told me there was no service in my zip code. Truth! It took months. I hope you have better luck.
