There is a train from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly. Once you get there you can get a Taxi to wherever you need to be. 'Deansgate' runs through the main centre of Manchester, but it would depend on where in Manchester you would need to be as to whether you gat a cab or take the tram.

Manchester is a BIG town. Your train journey alone will take about 30 minutes. Where are you heading/staying? Type in your destination at www.streetmap.co.uk and that should give you a general idea.

You sound like you may be a tourist so probably easiest to get a cab/taxi and ask for Manchester City Centre - the best place to be dropped off would be Deansgate, also visit Selfridges, Harvey Nichols in Exchange Square, King Street is fab as is St. Anne's Square, after a hard day shopping you can grab a Starbucks. You will love it, I'm from Manchester but live in Spain and miss it loads, it's really cosmopolitan now. Enjoy!
