Rebuilds and repaints do not hurt the value of the car as long as they are done correctly. Use a factory correct color (the one original to the car) and have a trusted mechanic look at that tranny. Depending on the engine, if it is an automatic it is either a 904 (for small block) or a 727 (for big block). Easy to rebuild and if done right are super strong and should last a long time. Oh and by the way, avoid bondo and fiberglass when restoring. It kills value.

Collectors have always preferred the '68 through '71 Road Runners. Convertibles and highest performance engines also have always a dramatic impact on value. The highest performance engine available in '74 was the 440HP. I am not clear on your motivation for this project. If you are looking to restore a Road Runner and recover your expenses due to increased market value, a '74 is not your best bet, especially in the condition you describe and with the 360cid engine. If you are interested in the fun of owning an interesting car and have the money to make it presentable and reliable, go for it!
