1024 bytes = 1 kilobytes
1024 KB = 1 megabyte
1024 MB = 1 gigabyte
1024 GB = 1 terabyte
The reason that 1024 is used instead of 1000 is that 1024 is both very close to 1000 and is a power of 2 (2^10) which results in "round numbers" when doing binary, octal, or hexadecimal arithmetic.
Hard drive manufacturers will sometimes use a multiplier of 1000 instead of 1024 to "cheat" and make their drives look bigger than they really are.
