"For instance when King James had the bible translated from greek to english he had the scribes executed and sealed up in a tower."
Wow...didn't know ghosts wrote the KJV! I do suppose that cuts down on the laundry and grocery expenses, though.
Would that make them holy spirits?

It is so interesting hearing answers that come from sheer ignorance. Most of you either made up your own philosophy, were raised with it or had someone convince you of it. Honestly before you even start making any assumptions, learn the facts. Not biased ones, not "possible" ones either. Whether you believe in God or in monkeys, you have to have some kind of faith, some kind of premise. Either I belive God is real, or I believe God is not real. Both of them require some kind of faith. Think about it, Darwins "theory" of evolotion is just that, a theory, which means if you believe it, you believe in something that is not yet fact. All I'm saying, and to answer the question, is that if you do belive blindly in God, you are a fool, just like if you belive in anything blindly. Educate yourself and make intelligent arguments, not something you just saw on the media.

Not every Christian reads the King James Version....I definately don't...
When it comes down to it, you are a Christian if you believe in Jesus Christ as your personal savior. When you accept Jesus, you receive the Holy Spirit as God's gift and a reminder that God is always with us. The Holy Spirit helps you determine what is right and wrong. So if you read something in a version of the Bible that sounds fishy, you should research it. But, the Bible in it's "true form" is believed by Christians to be the inspired and sometimes direct Word of God.
When it comes to faith, everyone has faith in something. In themselves, in God, in luck, in the physical world, in religious acts....the thing about this world is that you can explain a finite number of things by science but the rest is a mystery. You just have to choose what is trustworthy and true to put your faith in.

Jonesy, you have put up a thought provoking question. It is very logical to ask that, if a certain message has been distorted, and the true message of Jesus has been tampered with, by lesser mortals, seeking power and pilf, what is left for us to follow then?
Is all hope lost? Do we stay confused about which version of bible to use, and which one to reject.
I am a muslim, my friend. I do not wish to offend you in any way. But the above reason is exactly why God gave prophethood to Muhammad(Peace be upon him). The message of truth that he brought in the form of the Quran, is preserved to this day, even after the passage of 1400 years. Even christian reverends and priests cannot refute the fact that not even a single alphabet in the Quran has been tampered with, in 1400 years. God promised in the Quran to protect it Himself, and so He has.
"Verily, the truth has been made distinct from falsehood."
Let me also make it clear that Muslims believe in Jesus, his return, and all the prophets that preceded him(since Adam).
REQUEST: Dont believe all u hear about Islam from pseudo-intellectuals.
If you wud like to talk about this, I would be more than happy to respond.

If you actually compare all these different versions, you will find the differences hard to find, because they are so few, so far between, so small. They are less than molehills.
I believe in God, but not blindly. Over the years He has revealed Himself in many ways. It is that contact with a real living God who loves me that causes me to love Him back.
I hope and pray you will truly understand this one day.

The irrationality of religion has a scientific basis. It goes back to our cave man days when man was very insecure living in a hostile environment. The cerebral cortex of our brain (the complex thinking apparatus) is a relatively recent addition.
The more primitive underlying limbic system, the seat of our ancient emotions or innate temperaments, is in all of us. Humans use both systems. In times of trouble, people still pray for intervention by the god(s). Prayers are requests by persons to have the laws of the universe repealed in their favor.
People who are rational, relying on their cerebral cortex, look at all the absurdities in religion. Christian dogma expects people to believe the fairy tale of Noah's ark, although it is patently impossible to squeeze even samples of billions of the world's animals into one small ark. Rational persons consider such stories ludicrous.
The bible account of the creation of man and the universe is in such contradiction to irrefutable facts that a rational person cannot help but laugh about such fantasies.
Have you heard the saying "there's no atheists in foxholes?" Its because in times of danger, humans revert to the primitive part of their brain for security.

Belief in God has nothing to do with the bible. It is just a collection of historic writings, some beautiful, some flawed. Belief in God is based on faith.

The question is not believing in God, but who you define that God to be. Christians accept the ancient Hebrew tribal idol, Yahweh, by default, without considering the possibility that the REAL Supreme Beign of the Unvierse may be entirely different. Yahweh is just a CONCEPT for God (a poor one) not God himself!
