I believe it is hard to change than set a habit. For me, I don't set out to create a habit... it just happens. However, changing a habit requires you to identify the habit, how it started, determine a 'better' habit to replace the current one and then - consciously NOT doing the old way and substituting the new one.
It can happen, but I think that is would be 10x harder.

Fairly easy actually if the new habit satisfies the same "need" of ones MIND. It is ones MIND that determines whether or not one is able to change a habit.
The habit is the means by which ones MIND "vents" energy generated by ones MIND repressing some trauma [usually some misperceived trauma stored within ones MIND]. If the habit causes one a small amount of harm, then the trauma is only a slightly negative trauma. If ones habit causes one substantial harm, then it is a very negative trauma memory... and ones MIND believes one deserves to be punished substantially.
Changing a habit from drinking to smoking is relatively easy, since both are about equally harmful. Eating candy cannot be really substituted for using drugs... since using drugs is the more lethal, and thus, more punishing of oneself.
