A GED is a general equivolency degree and it replaces a high school diploma. It is granted after a person has taken a battery of tests proving that they have the equivelent of a high school degree. Usually it is for those who drop out of school. Many colleges and employers will accept a GED instead of a highschool diploma but generally it has a stigma of being of lesser value.

What you may want to do is speak to a counselor at your school about taking advance placement tests so that you can skip some courses that may not be necessary for you. Some schools will allow you to do this and some will refuse.

It's either one or the other. In high school u do 4 years, pass all classes, and then graduate. GED is taken normally if people drop out of school. What happens is u can op to take refresher courses before u take the test.I have heard that the test is very hard, because u are basically cramming 4 years of school into a month or two.
