What types of materials do you personally find create the best textures? Any tips you could give me?

Acrylic paint, charcoal, tissue paper, wax, coarse salt (for texturing), gauze, pencils, crayons, string, pastels.

texture on what? Metal, glass, clay, wax, paint, wood, plastic, food item, perishable non-food items, cloth, paper...
And then all combination thereof and different answer for each of them.
so kindly specify what media you want to mix and texture.
I personally like glass and pasta (currently)

gesso, tissue paper, paints (especially lumiere paints!), glue, separated coffee filters, foam, embossing
