I most definitely do not agree. I will, however, agree that certain Ford cars (like the pinto) shouldn't have ever been built, just like certain Chevy (Vega, for example) cars. Ford, like Dodge and GM, has good points and bad points. For example, Ford does not have a reputation from problem-free electrical systems. On the other hand, the Ford 9" rear end is stronger than anything GM put in a car. So many people would either modify either the rear end itself or their car just so the could install it on a GM that there are now companies making aftermarket 9" housings that will bolt on in place of the factory GM rear end. Also, Ford was smart enough to put the starter solenoid on the firewall where it stays cool, where GM puts it on the starter motor where it is likely to be damaged by the heat of the exhaust and fail significantly faster. On the other hand, I know of a few hot Fords running Chevy TH400 transmissions because they can be built stronger than the Ford C6 can, tough as it is. Also, Oldsmobile built the strongest engine block, tougher than the Chevy 350 or the Ford 302 or 351W, which is why they used it as the basis for the '80s GM diesel cars. Check it out if you don't believe me, they ran reworked Olds motors converted to run on diesel. The biggest reason why these cars were such dogs is that GM never properly redesigned the transmissions to handle a diesel engine, but if you can still find one of these cars a popular trick is to put gasoline heads and a gasoline intake and carb back on the motor. This will give you a strong (and strong running) gasoline motor with a high compression ratio, but you need to run high octane gas in it. Lastly, many people like to use Chevy motors, usually the 350, for hot rod projects not because they are significantly better than Ford motors, but because high performance parts are cheaper for them, thus a higher horsepower motor can bu built on a tighter budget. In summary, you really can't slam one car company or another and find a lot of factual support for your case because they have all had both good and bad ideas. What I would whole-heartedly support, however, is picking on the "tuners" who take something like a Civic or an Accord, bolt on an annoying muffler and an ugly spoiler, and think they magically have a race car. These people (although there are a few who actually DO know how to build an import into something impressive) need to be given a reality check. Among other things, I could beat 9 out of 10 of them with a stock '95 Dodge Caravan that I used to drive (don't ask, there are reasons why it was useful at the time).

I've used Ford trucks commercially for over 25 years. When all my friends Chevy's were in the tranny shop, I'd still be out plowing snow.

I wouldn't say that Fords suck us much as there advertising and gas millage goes. But in retrospect, I think there brand new Ford GT is my favorite Ford that there is, but the thing that sucks is that I will never have the money for one.

no as long as it's American Made it's good in my book? no prefrence here. Chevy and Ford both compete with each other but that's their job as long as they stay American made it's all good. i've owned them both and right now ford is dominating the scene since dropping the camaro.
