You shouldn't use paper towels. They are abrasive. Windex might be a bit harsh as well. I use eyeglass cleaning solution and a soft cloth.

Depends if it's a TFT or CRT. CRT monitors are glass fronted so normal window cleaning liquid sprayed onto the cloth first will work. TFT ones are harder to look after as they show streaks and are more sensative. I suggest using the correct cleaning wipes designed for the job, unless you're not too fussed then just use a cloth slightly damp with water but DO NOT press hard and don't let the water get inside the monitor.

This works for any monitor: Spray a paper towel with Windex and wipe the monitor with it. DO NOT SPRAY THE MONTIOR!!!!!!! LCD monitors should be shut off first. There are also computer wipes that can be used on the whole computer (on the outside, of course).
