When people say "there is only one race," it's not truly literal. It's more or less saying that everyone is equal (or at least should be). It's an idea, not a reality because many people are too bigoted and ignorant to embrace differences rather than shunning them.

I believe so, take Hispanics for example, they are not a race. There are black and white Hispanics and then the majority of the other people in between. What would you call them? A race is a group of individuals with the same characteristics, does this not apply to the human race, we all have eyes, noses, ears, arms, legs, we all go to the bathroom, and we all have a need to be loved and accepted. We are all one race, if you don't believe it, get over it, because this is the truth.

Actually, I like on of the www.dictionary.com's definitions of race: "a human population partially isolated reproductively from other populations, whose members share a greater degree of physical and genetic similarity with one another than with other humans." So, by this definition, there are different races.
Technically, though, we are all the same. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to reproduce together, eat the same foods, or donate blood to each other. Our nearest relatives (some chimps, gorillas, etc.) share close to 99% of our genes, yet we cannot produce viable offspring or share blood with these even though we can share some tissue as we do with pigs such as valves, heart, etc. (ethics/judgements of this aside, not to mention the yuck factor).
So is there only one race--no. Is one race better than the other--no. Each race evolved to meet a unique environmental demand placed on their population, and they sometimes carry these adaptations in their physical features. It just showcases the wonderful adaptability of the race that matters the most...the Human race.
Good journeys to all. Asha.

There are not 3 distinct races. What people are referring to by *******, Caucasoid and Mongoloid are the skull shapes of people found in parts of the world. The problem with these distinctions are that you can find people local to the African continent with "dark" skin that have Caucasoid-like skull shapes and people from the European continent with "light" skin with Mongoloid-like skull shapes and people from the east of the Asian continent with "light" or "dark" skin with *******-like skull shapes.
Genetically, we are not different. There are "pure" Europeans who have more in common genetically with "pure" Africans than they would with other Europeans in a neighboring country.
Like it or not we are genetically too similar.
The issue that is underneath the surface of all this talk is, "Are the so called differences people attribute to "race" (skin color, eye nose shapes, lips, etc...) responsible for behavioural differences?" but I think that should go on another post.

I only think of the term race as a man made word. We're all the same species.
(To others: Why are some of you bringing God into all this? You're not proving it still just by saying it's in the Bible...)

Race=ONE (Human)
Class equals two
1. Those of good character (who care about their fellow humans)
2. Those of poor character (those who only care about themselves or those that have the same skin color or social standing)

"Race" was not always a concept, that was a European idea; Yes there are differences amongst certain people but that's just for them to adapt and adjust to their climate and surroundings. Really if you look at it, we are all one thing: humans
