I'm not sure what grade you are in, so I hope this helps.
If you are in college, your thesis is NOT the first sentence of the introduction...it is the last sentence. Your first sentence is a hook. Something that draws the reader into your essay. (A quote might be a good hook for this essay. I used the quote from the geologist who died when St. Helens errupted for a speech once.) After your hook, you follow up with general background information about your subject. Then define any special words/terms you will use in your essay. Follow that with a more narrowed focus about your topic. Lastly, put the thesis.
For example:
Hook
Destructive power of nature in general
Terms/definitions
Specify that you will discuss volcanoes (what kind?)
Thesis
Hope this helps!

First sentence of the whole essay should be a thesis statement. If you do not already know what it is, it is a statement on what your whole essay is about
Second sentence you should back up your thesis statement with a fact.
Third and Fourth sentences you chould just give examples of what you are going to talk about. (1 example for each paragraph)

You should grab interest with your first sentence but use facts instead of being creative. Your whole first paragraph should include some basic info you have found during research as well as some interesting info.

that's how i might want to write it: What do Batman, Superman, and Spiderman all have in hardship-free? they're all widely used to be heroes. Why is that? properly, that's no longer because they have superpowers; that's because of the actual undeniable actuality that all of them have different maximum hardship-free heroic traits which comprise, braveness, intelligence, and selflessness. someone, enormous or small, will be a hero. All they elect to do is own some heroic qualites. contained in the tale, after the first lack of existence, Kate is someone who's heroic traits resound in the technique the radical.

It depends on what the whole paper is on. The opening sentence should be a reflection of what the whole paper is about.
